Galinha Mourisca gastronomic weekend

Vila Nova de Famalicão is celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of one of the great figures of Portuguese literature - Camilo Castelo Branco, born on March 16th 1825.
In his work ‘O santo da Montanha’ (The Saint of the Mountain), Camilo highlights the flavours of Galinha Mourisca (Moorish Chicken): ‘We make greaves; we go to the dripping; we pour it into a bowl, where the chicken is carved or half-roasted; on top we pour a splash of white wine, a little vinegar and almost no water; then bay leaves, cloves, pepper, egg yolks, slices underneath and lemon slices on top. It's time to eat and scream for more!...’ It is with these succulent details that Camilo describes the dish, which he invites you to try in celebration of his bicentenary.
