Camilo Castelo Branco Literary Award

Applications for the first edition of the Camilo Castelo Branco Literary Award are open until March 16th 2025.

The biennial competition, organised and sponsored by the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, involves a cash prize of 7,500 euros and aims to promote literary creation in the Portuguese language and is aimed at Lusophone writers.

Interested authors can apply with a work published in the two calendar years prior to the award, and texts in the forms of poetry, novel, novella, short story and theatre are allowed.

Formalising your application for the Camilo Castelo Branco Literary Award involves sending four copies to the Camilo House-Museum by post, with registration and acknowledgement of receipt. Of these copies, three will be distributed to the members of the jury, made up of the scientific coordinator of the Camilo House-Museum, Sérgio Guimarães de Sousa, and two literary critics, and the fourth copy will become part of the bibliographic collection of the Camillian Studies Centre in Seide.

Only works by authors over the age of 18 will be entered into the competition.

The winning work will be announced no later than six months after the deadline for receipt of entries - by September 2025.
