Film cycle / Unforgettable films

The aim of the activity is to encourage reflection and debate on the plurality of readings, meanings and truths that cinema brings to the general public. Each session will be attended by an invited personality who is prominent in the most diverse areas of Portuguese life and culture, who will choose and comment on a film that he or she considers to have a special perspective, either because of the richness of its synthesis of the journeys of human existence, or because of its inherent aesthetic quality, or because of the relationship between Literature and Cinema.

Synopsis: While her husband and children are away, Francesca (Meryl Streep) is approached by Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood), a photographer working for "National Geographic" magazine, who asks her for directions. After explaining that she is doing a photo report on the local bridges, Francesca agrees to accompany him on his visit. This innocent decision will completely change her life when she finds love again, albeit briefly. The pain caused by her separation from Robert, combined with the isolation she feels, leads Francesca to want to materialize her brief love affair in a diary. This memoir, spread over three volumes, is later found by her children, who are now questioning the purpose of her life.
