As part of the celebrations for the Bicentenary of Camilo Castelo Branco's birth, Casa de Camilo has invited Professor Rui Mesquita to give a lecture at the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library entitled "Camilo and music: some notes".
Summary: There are many references to music in Camilo's work. On the other hand, many composers were inspired by the novelist's life and work. Prof. Rui Mesquita proposes to present and comment on some of the most important manifestations of this relationship between Camilo and music, interpreting them with the collaboration of students from the Camilo Castelo Branco School Group.

Biographical note: Rui Mesquita was born in Vila Nova de Famalicão on May 20th, 1957. He completed the Piano Course at the Music Culture Center, Caldas da Saúde, under the guidance of Dr. José Alexandre Reis. He studied Specialized Higher Studies, Music Education variant, at the University of Minho. At the same institution, he obtained a Master's degree in Child Studies, Music Education variant, in 2006. He is the co-author of the book A nossa escola canta (Our school sings) and has published the corresponding CD. In 2011, he presented his first album: Ao espelho de um piano. In 2013, the Vila Nova de Famalicão City Hall awarded him the Municipal Medal of Cultural Municipal Merit. He taught Music Education at Escola EB 2,3 Júlio Brandão, Vila Nova de Famalicão, and has also developed musical projects at Escola Secundária Camilo Castelo Branco. In 2021, he published the book Mons. José Fernandes da Silva, priest and musician.
