Camillian Night at the Book Fair – Gathering on Camilo Castelo Branco

As part of the celebrations for the Bicentenary of Camilo Castelo Branco's birth, the House of Camilo will be hosting a gathering in the context of the Famalicão Book Fair to celebrate the great writer, emphasizing the aesthetic, literary, cultural and heritage merits of his great novelistic work.

Biographical note: Sérgio Guimarães de Sousa, who lives in Santa Maria de Arnoso, is a Professor of Portuguese Literature and Theory of Literature at the University of Minho, where he obtained his doctorate with a thesis entitled: "Entre-Dois. Desire and the Ancient Regime in Camillian Fiction". He has been a visiting professor at various universities: University of São Paulo, Federal University of Paraná, University of Clermont Auvergne, FLAD/Michael Teague Visiting Associate Professor at Brown University; and also Visiting Professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, holder of the "Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies". He is an advisor to the Camilo Castelo Branco Chair (Sintra City Council/University of Lisbon), a member of the Camilo Castelo Branco Research Group, based at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo and the Scientific Coordinator of the Camillian Studies Center and the Camilo’s House-Museum.


Biographical note: Born in Louro, a teacher at the Camilo Castelo Branco School Group, João Paulo Braga has been carrying out literary research alongside his professional activity, with a special focus on the work of Camilo Castelo Branco, on which he defended a doctoral thesis in 2011 at the Portuguese Catholic University. He is a member of the Center for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies (Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences - Portuguese Catholic University) and has collaborated with the Camillian Studies Center, publishing texts and producing studies on Camilo Castelo Branco.


Biographical note: Elzira Sá Queiroga, born in Luanda, Angola, studied Cultural Heritage at university. She has a degree in Heritage Management from the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and a master's degree in Heritage Studies from Universidade Aberta, with the dissertation "Os gestos e os paladares da mesa camiliana".


Works at the Camillian Studies Center in the field of promoting and disseminating Camillian heritage, contributing to the implementation of institutional projects that promote the preservation and enhancement of Camillian memory.
